OT analysis of vowel deletion

Sequences of vowels are frequently avoided in the world's languages, and deletion of the first of two vowels is the most common way in which they are avoided. See Casali (1997) and Rosenthall (1997) for discussion of the typology of responses to V#V sequences, and analysis within Optimality Theory.
