The toddler’s typical pants are shockingly different from those in the US. Though, when you think about the ‘toilettes’ in China and how everyone squats to use the bathroom, it only makes sense that this is the easiest way for a child to become ‘potty’ trained.

This was probably one of the most shocking things that I learned/saw on the trip. I still want to know more details on the logistics of this! I feel like you are just asking for an awkward public situation. Overall, this is definitely an example of something that would not be able to be transferred to the US.

I also thought this was an interesting trend and I had never heard of it before I came to China.  I heard from one of our tour guides that a lot of parents do this because it's the easiest and quickest way to potty train kids. Diapers actually make children dependent longer. But there were a few complaints that this isn't the cleanest method either!

I agree that diapers might

I agree that diapers might keep children from becoming potty trained quicker, but I think in a country with a billion people there would be more importance placed on cleanliness and that diapers might be a good idea.  I also think that the whole squatting method is a major influence in the open pants potty training method.
