Pronunciation Tips

uang eng iou

"uang" is a combination of "u" and "ang." See unit 2 for the pronunciation of "u" and "ang." wāng, wáng, wǎng, wàng.

When "uang" is not following an initial, it is written as "wang."

"eng" is a combination of "e" and "ng." See unit 1 for the pronunciation of "e." pēng, péng, pěng, pèng.

"iou" is a combination of "i" and "ou." See unit 1 for the pronunciation of "i" and unit 2 for the pronunciation of "ou." yōu, yóu, yǒu, yòu.

When "iou" is not following an initial, it is written as "you."

When "iou" is following an initial, it is written as "iu." However, the way to pronounce it remains unchanged.
