Internship in Japan / 日本でインターンシップ: 学生のblogとvlog

マイケル・ガーチ:2019年夏

My name is Michael Gurch, and in summer 2019 I did a software engineering internship in Tokyo, Japan. It was an opportunity made possible by the International Internship Program here at UT. The company I interned at was a small IT startup company based in Hiroo, Shibuya, which was about a 40 minute commute by train from where I lived in Bunkyo City. My duties involved assisting with the development of IOS apps, testing apps, and helping out with administrative duties.

Overall, I had a great experience. I learned a lot through this internship, both about programming and Japanese language and culture. Moreover, I actually got to speak Japanese around 60 to 70 percent of the time, which was really cool. If you are interested in living or working in Japan, this would be a great program for you! I should mention, however, that unfortunately the internship is unpaid. This is due to visa reasons. That being said, I would still highly recommend it, as it was a great experience that I would not have found otherwise were it not for UT’s International Internship Program.
