Turkish palatalization


Turkish has at least two different sound alternations that have been described as forms of palatalization:

  • An alternation among the Dorsal stops, in which the velars [k g] alternate with the palatals [c ɟ].
  • A lateral alternation, in which the velarized alveolar liquid [l] alternates with a non-velarized liquid transcribed in many sources as [lɟ].
